Travel Itinerary
Day 1 - Siem Reap – Arrival (D)
Arrival in Siem Reap, the gateway to the majestic temples of Angkor and a charming little city. Your guide will meet you and accompany you to Villa Kiara. Upon check in, you will be greeted with a delicious Welcome drink on the hotel’s terrace. Settle in to the beautiful property and refresh for a while. Now you are ready for an exploration of the amazing Temples of Angkor. One of the world's great architectural achievements, Angkor has tantalized Western travelers since 1858 when Henri Mouhot, a French naturalist, stumbled upon it in the jungle and it became the 'lost city' of Asia. Now the great city of Angkor can be seen in all its glory. Spend your days leisurely exploring the fantastic temples, gates and stone carvings of one of the world's most remarkable ancient empires. This afternoon, head out with your guide by private vehicle to the Rolous Group, around 15 km out of Siem Reap. The Rolous Group is the site of an ancient center of Khmer civilization known as Hariharalaya and as such the oldest temple complex of this area, dating back to the 8th and 9th century. Explore the three main temples Bakong, Preah Ko and Lolei on a short 3 km walking tour. Discover the beauty of the Cambodian countryside as you will drive through the beautiful rice fields and sugar palm trees. Enjoy dinner tonight at the hotel’s cosy restaurant by the pool.
Hotel: Overnight at Villa Kiara in Siem Reap.
Day 2 - Siem Reap (B)
This morning after an extensive breakfast at your hotel, a local Tuk Tuk will take you on a visit of the temples of the ‘Small Circuit’. The most impressive of these is the magical Ta Prohm temple, built in the mid 12th to early 13th centuries. Ta Prohm is unique in that it has been left largely as it was found: overgrown by jungle trees and vines, with many parts of the temple crumbling to the ground. This makes Ta Prohm one of the most picturesque and memorable of the Angkor temples. Return to the hotel for a break during the midday heat. Later, set out for an interesting exploration to the ancient city of Angkor Thom. Angkor Thom was the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. This city is surrounded by an 8 m high wall, with each side of the city being 4 km long, drawing a perfect square. You will enter the city from the ancient South Gate, an impressive stone gate carved with Elephants and four giant faces. On each side of the entrance path, a row of 54 gods or demons is holding the sacred Naga snake. From here, continue to Bayon Temple in the exact center of the city. This 12th century masterpiece is a study in grandeur. The exterior gallery walls have extensive, superb bas-reliefs, particularly the East and South Galleries. The Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King are also must-visits as they are both known for their intricate bas-reliefs. Return to Siem Reap and enjoy the evening at leisure.
Hotel: Overnight at Villa Kiara in Siem Reap.
Day 3 - Siem Reap (B)
This morning, end your visit to Angkor by Tuk Tuk at the definite highlight: the famous Angkor Wat. Built during the reign of King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century, it is constructed following the model of the temple mountain symbolizing the Mount Meru, home of the gods. The divine residence of Vishnu, the King himself was to reside here after his death. Inside the temple, the walls are covered with stone carvings and bas-reliefs depicting Hindu mythology and the wars Suryavarman II fought during his reign. Moreover, Angkor Wat is well known for the more than 2,000 Apsara dancers decorating the temple. Construction is thought to have taken around thirty years of intensive labor. Today, Angkor Wat is figured on Cambodia's national flag as the temple symbolizes the soul of the Khmer people. Return to Siem Reap and enjoy the entire afternoon at leisure. At the hotel, you will be treated to a traditional Khmer body massage in the privacy of your room. Relax and enjoy! Dinner at leisure.
