Fishing in Mongolia is one of the last adventure for fishermen who have already fishing everywhere else.
Here lives the world's largest salmonid, the taimen, also known to the Mongolians as “River wolf”. Taimen can reach up to 200 pounds and 2 m long.
Fishing here is catch and release with barbless hooks as it is one of the world's healthiest and biggest taimen. population.
The best months for fishing in Mongolia are September and October.
Travel Itinerary
Day 1 Beijing - Ulaanbaatar - (L,D)
Take a flight at 8:30 and arrive in Ulaanbaatar at 10:50. The rest of the day is free for you to discover Ulaanbaatar on your own.

Day 2 Ulaanbaatar - Karakorum - (B,L,D)
On the way to the fishing camp on the Chuluut River, stop at Karakorum for the night.
Karakorum is the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire, established in 1220 and was used by Genghis Khan as a supply point for the Mongol armies.
The ruins of the city are now slowly disappearing back into the steppe, but the foundations of the buildings and palaces convey a sense of the grandeur of the ancient capital.

Day 3 Karakorum - Chuluut River - (B,L,D)
Early in the morning start the 280km drive to the fishing camp on the Chuluut River. The Chuluut River winds its way through a steep basalt gorge, and the area is perfect for fly-fishing and white-water rafting.
Spend the afternoon fishing.

Day 4 - Day 9 Chuluut - (B,L,D)
Enjoy a full five days of fishing and touring the local area.
Camp each night by the rushing waters of the Chuluut.

Day 10 Chuluut - Karakorum - (B,L,D)
Return by jeep to the Karakorum camp. Your will go to the Erdene Zuu monastery, which is located northwest of the site of the imperial city and was built using materials and stones from the ruins of Karakorum.
Construction of the monastery began in the 16th century and continued until the early 20th century. At one time the monastery complex held over 600 temples and housed 1000 monks, but during the communist purges of the 1930s most of the temple buildings were destroyed and the monks sent into exile or killed.
Today Erdene Zuu is both a museum and a working monastery. Spend the day visiting the museum, monastery and doing some souvenir shopping.
Overnight in the nearby ger camp.

Day 11 Karakorum - Ulaanbaatar - (B,L,D)
Today you will return to Ulaanbaatar.
You will visit the Zanabazar Fine Arts museum, which holds some of the greatest works of the renowned 17th century Buddhist sculptor. You can also visit the Museum of National History, making sure to see the dinosaur skeletons uncovered in the Gobi and the Golden Camel Museum section.
Afterwards you are free to visit on your own.

- For taimen is only catch & release fishing. For other species is catch & release fishing free, but max 5 species per day.
- We suggest you bring sunglasses, a summer hat that fully protects your face and neck from the sun, sunscreen lotion, rain coat, rain boots, mosquito creams, flash lights and a personal medical kit.
